When making a gift by check, be sure that you make it payable to Sweet Briar College. If you have a designation, please specify this in the memo section, or include a brief note with your check specifying how you wish to designate your gift. Gifts of appreciated securities can provide you with an income tax charitable deduction and a capital gains tax savings. There are several ways to make a gift of securities to Sweet Briar: electronic transfer, mail or hand delivery.

Before making your gift, notify the Office of Alumnae & Development of your intent by calling toll-free at 888.846.5722, or by sending a letter stating your name, address and the purpose for which the gift is being made or click here for the Stock Gift Information Instruction sheet.

Send the unsigned certificates in an envelope to the College. In a separate envelope, send a signed stock power to the College.

Hand Delivery

Certificates also may be given directly to an Alumnae & Development staff member or hand delivered to the Office of Alumnae & Development. DO NOT mail endorsed certificates! Once the certificate is endorsed, it is legal tender and can be exchanged by anyone.

Wire Transfer

Wire transfer is a method of electronic funds transfer from one person or entity to another. Click here to view Wire Transfer Instructions.

Gifts-in-Kind are tangible gifts of personal property, such as artwork, books, livestock, historical collections and scientific equipment. Assets related to the educational mission of the College can be deducted for their full fair-market value. Personal property unrelated to the College's mission can be deducted at the cost to the donor.

Real Estate

When you make a gift of your home or real estate property to Sweet Briar, you receive an income tax charitable deduction, avoid capital gains tax on the appreciation and eliminate some costs in transferring the property. In addition, you can make your gift of your home to the College and continue to live in it throughout your lifetime. In some cases, gifts of real estate can provide income to you.

New in 2016, you can get rid of that old vehicle and give to Sweet Briar through V-Dac.
