When making a gift by check, be sure that you make it payable to Sweet Briar College. If you have a designation, please specify this in the memo section, or include a brief note with your check specifying how you wish to designate your gift. Gifts of appreciated securities can provide you with an income tax charitable deduction and a capital gains tax savings. There are several ways to make a gift of securities to Sweet Briar: electronic transfer, mail or hand delivery.
Before making your gift, notify the Office of Alumnae & Development of your intent by calling toll-free at 888.846.5722, or by sending a letter stating your name, address and the purpose for which the gift is being made or click here for the Stock Gift Information Instruction sheet.
Notify your broker that you wish to make a gift of securities to Sweet Briar College. After authorizing the transfer, instruct your broker to contact the Office of Alumnae & Development. Our office will give your broker complete transfer instructions.
Send the unsigned certificates in an envelope to the College. In a separate envelope, send a signed stock power to the College.
Certificates also may be given directly to an Alumnae & Development staff member or hand delivered to the Office of Alumnae & Development. DO NOT mail endorsed certificates! Once the certificate is endorsed, it is legal tender and can be exchanged by anyone.

Gifts-in-Kind are tangible gifts of personal property, such as artwork, books, livestock, historical collections and scientific equipment. Assets related to the educational mission of the College can be deducted for their full fair-market value. Personal property unrelated to the College's mission can be deducted at the cost to the donor.
When you make a gift of your home or real estate property to Sweet Briar, you receive an income tax charitable deduction, avoid capital gains tax on the appreciation and eliminate some costs in transferring the property. In addition, you can make your gift of your home to the College and continue to live in it throughout your lifetime. In some cases, gifts of real estate can provide income to you.

Friends of Art, Friends of Athletics and Friends of Library provide funding that stretches beyond the budgetary provisions of the College. These visionary groups act as stewards that champion and sustain the mission of the College by ensuring future generations of students benefit from its invaluable resources.

The Friends of Art fund the acquisition of works of art for permanent collection and also support exhibitions, publications, lecturers, special events, travel and tours.

Friends of Library
The Friends of Library seek to encourage an understanding of the Mary Helen Cochran Library and its branches and to attract resources through gifts or bequests, which can include monetary donations, books, manuscripts and other appropriate material.
