Master of Education
As someone who teaches, you know how challenging and rewarding the work can be. As schools become increasingly diverse, and as state standards increase pressure on teachers to produce measurable outcomes, you may wonder: How can I work with the differences that students bring into the classroom--different strengths, different interests, different readiness levels, different feelings about school, different home lives, different styles of learning--in such a way that I engage all of my students in learning opportunities that result in increased achievement? At Sweet Briar our goal is to help you answer this question by offering a combination of rigorous and engaging coursework, individualized mentoring from the program faculty, and extensive field experiences. When you graduate, you will have learned and acquired new skills, habits, and ways of thinking that will empower you to differentiate instruction so that all of your students will be a position to succeed.
Some details: Our M.Ed. program is designed for practicing professionals with a minimum of three years teaching experience. Classes meet in the late afternoons and evenings one night a week, with the exception of our three summer courses. The M.Ed. program consists of 33 credit hours.
Who can Enroll?
The Master of Education in Differentiated Curriculum and Instruction is a coeducational degree program for college graduates with a teaching license and a minimum of three years of teaching experience who seek professional advancement.
