Vacations and General Help
Summer and Vacation Plans
During Sweet Briar’s Thanksgiving, Christmas and spring vacations, the College is closed, and students may not stay in the residence halls. A number of our international students use this time to travel or visit friends or relatives. Others, with or without the assistance of the Offices of International Studies and Co-Curricular Life, make arrangements to stay on or near the campus. Be assured, vacation housing can be arranged. Many international students stay at Sweet Briar to work or do important research during the summer. If you do not plan to go home or visit friends or relatives during the summer, the Honors Program Office will help you make necessary housing arrangements, whether or not you are an Honors student. The Office of International Studies works with each student to make sure that she has plans for any periods of time when the College is closed.
Where to Get Help
Any of the offices on campus will be happy to answer your questions or help you with a problem. Questions about academic or immigration regulation matters should be directed to the Dean’s Office or the Director of International Studies. Questions about life outside the classroom can be directed to the Co-Curricular Life Office. Also, don’t be afraid to ask your Community Assistant (CA) or your roommate for help. Because Sweet Briar is a small, close-knit community, you will find that faculty, staff and students are friendly and eager to make you feel at home. We hope your academic and social experiences at Sweet Briar will be satisfying and rewarding, and look forward to meeting you in August.
The College’s Information Center is open 24 hours a day. They can be particularly helpful when you first arrive at Sweet Briar. They can be reached at (434) 381-6100 or in an emergency at (800) 333-6144 (no charge).
