The Sweet Briar Museum
Located in the lower level of Boxwood Alumnae House (formerly The Boxwood Inn), the Sweet Briar Museum exhibits decorative arts, furniture, clothing and other artifacts that belonged to the College's founding family and memorabilia relating to the College's 115-year history.
The museum is open for visitors during the academic year (September-April) from 1 to 4 p.m Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, and for programs and special events as announced. It is also open for Families Weekend and Homecoming, and for Alumnae Reunion. The Museum is closed for all regular College holidays and breaks and for College closures due to weather emergencies.
Tours are available by appointment. To make an appointment, please call (434) 381-6248. Admission is free. Visitor parking is available next to the museum entrance, across from the Development Office.
Please note, the Sweet Briar Museum is not open regular hours during the summer. However, any campus visitors who would like to arrange a visit may call the museum director, Karol Lawson, at (434) 381-6248 or email her at [email protected] to arrange for a tour at a mutually convenient time. Twenty-four hours notice is appreciated. Such special appointments are not available on weekends.
