Student Researchers Study Shakespeare, Other Diverse Topics

If you ask Sweet Briar College student Liz Zuckerman about her plans for the summer, she’ll say they firmly entrench her in the “geek” category. In addition to playing Benvolio in the Endstation Theatre Company production of “Romeo and Juliet” in July, Zuckerman will be writing a novel from the point of view of Ophelia, the heroine of Shakespeare’s “Hamlet,” for the 2008 Honors Summer Research Program.

Endstation and Sweet Briar Present First Blue Ridge Summer Theatre Festival

The Endstation Theatre Co. and Sweet Briar College will present the inaugural Blue Ridge Summer Theatre Festival July 9 through July 27 at Sweet Briar College. The festival’s first season will feature an outdoor production of William Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet” and the premiere of “The Bluest Water: A Hurricane Camille Story,” an original play about the 1969 storm that devastated Nelson County in Virginia.

Sweet Briar Receives Gift of Music from Generous Donor

Frequent patrons of Sweet Briar College’s musical events may have begun to notice a richer, fuller sound in Memorial Chapel during the piano performances. The effect owes to a new Schimmel Concert Grand K 280 Tradition, purchased in the fall with a generous gift from Robert and Nellie Gipson in honor of Robert’s mother, the late Madeliene Le Pine Gipson ’33.

141 Degrees Awarded at Commencement, Keynote speaker addresses ‘Challenges, Privilege and Obligation’

On Saturday, May 10, 141 degrees were awarded at the 99th commencement of Sweet Briar College. Ten graduate degrees were conferred — two Master of Education and eight Master of Arts in Teaching — and 131 undergraduate, one of which was awarded posthumously.
