“The opportunity to return to a program and a school that gave so much to me as a student-athlete is a once-in-a-lifetime reward,” said Hodgert, a former Vixen swim team member who still holds the 200-meter butterfly and the 400-meter individual medley records at Sweet Briar.
“After meeting with the team and seeing their enthusiasm for getting work done both in the pool and the weight room, I am excited to have this opportunity to work with athletes who strive for excellence and want to achieve it.”
Hodgert served as the Randolph College head swim coach from 1997-2008, coaching her swimmers to among the top of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. She was named ODAC Coach of the Year in 2004. For the past six years, Hodgert has worked as the athletic director, physical education teacher and cross-country coach at James River Day School in Lynchburg.
“I am very excited that Donna has accepted the position to be our next swim coach,” said Sweet Briar’s athletic director Kelly Morrison. “[Her] experience and understanding of all that is special about Sweet Briar will be a winning combination. We are thrilled to have her join our coaching staff.”
