Oxford-based a cappella ensemble Voice will perform at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, in Memorial Chapel at Sweet Briar College, with some songs featuring the Sweet Briar College Chamber Choir. The event is part of the College’s 2013-2014 Babcock Season.
Formed in 2006, the all-female trio explores a diverse repertoire of Hildegard von Bingen and other early masters, as well as world folk song arrangements and contemporary compositions. Voice has appeared at venues in Europe and throughout the U.K., including the 2012 Cultural Olympiad in London. Last year, Voice worked with composer Stevie Wishart as part of the WOW Festival (Women of the World) at the Royal Festival Hall, where they performed her new piece “O Choruscans Lux Stellarum,” along with the Voicelab choir.
More recently, Voice toured the UK with the project “Megaphones for the Unheard,” which explored female voices through music and poetry. The singers collaborated with poet Jasmine Ann Cooray, among others. They also worked with early music instrumental ensemble Dufay Collective, performing “A Distant Mirror: Machaut, Mannerism and the Medieval Mind” at Dartington International Summer School 2013. Voice’s debut album, “Musical Harmony,” was released earlier this year. This marks the trio’s first U.S. tour.
