A bit of Brazil at SBC concert

| November 5, 2013

Carol Hill taught at Liberty University for 10 years before coming to Sweet Briar.

Brazilian tunes will heat up this month’s Janet Lowrey Gager Community Concert, which takes place at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6, in Memorial Chapel at Sweet Briar College.

The concert will feature works representative of popular, classical and folk genres from composers such as Heitor Villa-Lobos and Tom Jobim, among others. Three local music professors, all of whom have lived and taught in Brazil, will perform the pieces, along with other accompanying musicians.

Sweet Briar voice instructor Carol Hill, a mezzo-soprano, will be joined by Armenio Suzano (soprano sax, clarinet, piano), director of the Liberty University Symphony Orchestra, and LU faculty member and guitarist Leon Neto, who has worked as a producer, musician and arranger on nearly 100 albums of Brazilian music, according to a Randolph College article.

The event is free and open to the public. For more information, please contact Anna Billias at [email protected].
