Preparing for Hurricane Sandy

| October 28, 2012

Hurricane Sandy is tracking up the East Coast and is expected to affect Virginia for the next few days. Governor McDonnell has issued a State of Emergency for Virginia.

Current predictions indicate that the storm will not hit Sweet Briar as hard as other areas in the state. However, in the event we experience a stronger impact than anticipated, important messages will be distributed via e2campus, email and by other available means. This includes information about dining, classes and other critical campus services. This information will also be posted physically outside Campus Safety in Fletcher and in Prothro Commons. Damage and other problems should be reported to Campus Safety, located in the lower level of Fletcher, Ext. 6144. In the event power is lost, we will have generators operating in several areas including Prothro Commons where we will set up charging stations if necessary.

We continue to track Hurricane Sandy’s progress and impact on our area. The College is open as current conditions are safe; however, we will make adjustments if conditions change. Remember, students, faculty and staff will receive updates via e2campus, email, and on our website ( In the event that we lose power and Internet, notices will be posted outside Campus Safety and in Prothro.

Now would be a good time to fully charge cellphones, laptops and other devices in case the campus loses power.

Thank you for your support as we meet the challenges of Hurricane Sandy.
