Nearly two weeks in advance of its official United Way campaign wrap-up on Nov. 26, Sweet Briar College has surpassed its goal of raising $13,000.

A reception will be held for those who contributed to the 2007 United Way campaign from 4 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27 in the Wailes Lounge at the Conference Center. At 4:30 sharp, drawings will begin for incentive prizes worth a total value of more than $2,000, and it’s not too late to get your name in the hat. Contributions are still welcome.

As of Nov. 16, the total stood at $13,341. The campaign got a boost through a silent auction held Nov. 14 in Prothro and an open-mic concert in the Vixen Den on Nov. 15. The latter event featured the musical talents of Steve Wassell, Tim Kasper, Rob Granger, Mark Magruder, Joe Malloy, Laura Pharis and Celtic dancers Doreen McVeigh ’09, Katherine Boltz ’10 and Lorri Deavers ’11.

“This year was another success,” said SBC campaign coordinator Karen Summers. “Sweet Briar continues to stand out as one of the leading contributors per employee in the county.”

Summers, who is in her ninth year as the staff coordinator for the campaign, said the special events made this year extra fun. “We had folks contributing not only monetarily, but with their time and talent.”

Pam Simpson, Lynn Canada and Natalie Batman ’08 are also United Way coordinators for Sweet Briar.
