Vixens finish near top at Hollins IHSA show

Sweet Briar’s IHSA team tied for the reserve champion title at Hollins University.

Several Sweet Briar riders finished at or near the top of their classes in Saturday’s Intercollegiate Horse Show Association competition at Hollins University. The team combined to place second in the show, sharing the reserve champion title with Bridgewater College.

Randolph College was the overall winner.

Senior Olivia Smith’s first-place finish in open fences and second in open flat lifted her to the high-point rider spot. Other highlights include wins in their flat classes by Laura Leitch ’14, Hannah Bowers ’15 and Maddy Lee ’17. Sarah Hibler ’14 was second in both open fences and open flat and Mary Kate Bailey ’16 was second in the walk trot division.

Katie Drake ’14 was third in novice flat, Kathryne Richard ’15 was fourth in novice fences and both Lexi Markmann ’17 and Allyson Fredrick ’17 were fifth in their over fences classes.
