The Sweet Briar Intercollegiate Horse Show Association team took the reserve championship in the first IHSA show of the season on Sept. 24 at Hollins University.
Sarah Hibler ’14 led the individual highlights with first- and second-place finishes that added up to make her the show’s high-point rider. Kendall Harris ’13 collected enough points to qualify as an individual for regional competition. And first-year Kaitlin Schaal, in her first show, was crowned queen for the day by her teammates after securing the Vixen’s second-place finish in the last class of the day.
Bridgewater College won the show with 34 points. Sweet Briar’s 28 points were followed closely by Lynchburg College with 26 and Hollins with 25. Randolph College placed fifth and the University of Virginia rounded out the top six spots among the 11 teams in the region.
Individual standings were:
Olivia Smith ’14 – fourth place, open flat and fences
Sarah Hibler ’14 – second, intermediate fences; first, intermediate flat.
Brianna Belter ’12 – fourth, novice flat
Karista Giordano ’15 – sixth, novice flat
Kendall Harris ’13 – fourth, walk trot canter
Kaitlin Schaal ’15 – third, walk trot
